How, where and when

"How", "where" and "when" are not supposed to be used at the beginning of a sentence unless the sentence is a question.

Why is it then that so many maltese start the sentence with these words? Example of phrases I have heard so so many times:

How cold/hot it is!!
How nice to sit outside!!
How long I have not seen you!! (Honestly I heard a very posh lady say this to a friend of her's)

Where I come from, you can buy this for a few pence.


When you visit your grandma, make sure you give her a hug

It started off in Sliema

I just happened to be in M & S in Sliema, patiently waiting for my sister to choose some new cloths. I happened to be near the till upstairs when I heard one of the girls on the till telling her collegue "Leave these here, they are of the gentleman". Now I just saw red when I heard her say "of the gentlemen" which of course is the literal english translation of the maltese "tar-ragel".

I do not profess to speak or write perfect maltese, but please please I beg of everyone to either speak maltese or speak grammatically correct english.

I have a lot of other examples to give but I hope this is a start. I would love you to let me know your experiences, describe the person, where and when you heard them speak maltenglo.
